How to Use Korean Fonts in Canva (Free and Pro)

Three ways to get Hangul fonts into your Canva designs — built-in Korean fonts, uploading your own font with Canva Pro, and a free PNG trick that works for everyone.

Canva is the easiest way to make Instagram posts, YouTube thumbnails and posters — and it handles Korean text well once you know where the fonts are. Here are three ways to do it.

Method 1: Use Canva’s built-in Korean fonts (free)

Canva’s font library already includes a number of Korean-capable fonts.

  1. Add a text box and type or paste your Korean text.
  2. Open the font menu and search for a Korean font by name — for example Noto Sans KR, Nanum Gothic, Black Han Sans or Jua.
  3. If your Hangul suddenly turns into boxes or a default font, the font you picked doesn’t contain Korean characters — choose another.

캔바 디자인

The most widely used Korean sans-serif. Clean, neutral and supports every Hangul syllable — the safe choice for websites, apps and documents.

Black Han Sans 검은고딕

캔바 디자인

Ultra-heavy, punchy Korean headline font. The go-to for thumbnails, posters and K-variety-show style captions.

Jua 주아체

캔바 디자인

Round, chunky and adorable — a bold font that is also one of the cutest Korean fonts.

The exact list of fonts can change, so if a name isn’t there, try another font from the same style.

Method 2: Upload any Korean font (Canva Pro)

With Canva Pro (or Teams), you can upload your own font files and use any Hangul font from this site.

  1. Download the font ZIP from its page here and unzip it.
  2. In Canva, open Brand (Brand Kit) and find Brand fonts.
  3. Click Upload a font and choose the .ttf or .otf file.
  4. The font now appears in your font menu in every design.

Every font on this site uses an open license (mostly the SIL Open Font License), so uploading it to Canva for your projects is allowed.

Great fonts to upload for social media:

Pretendard 프리텐다드

오늘의 기록

The modern favorite of Korean UI designers. Pairs Hangul with Inter-style Latin letters, 9 weights, perfect for apps and landing pages.

Method 3: The free PNG trick (works for everyone)

No Pro plan? Make the text as an image instead.

  1. Type your text into the Korean font generator or on any font page.
  2. Pick the color and size, keep Transparent PNG checked, and press PNG on the font you like.
  3. Upload the PNG to Canva and place it on your design like a sticker.

This is also the best way to use very decorative fonts — brush calligraphy, pixel fonts — exactly as they look.

Tips for Korean text in Canva

  • Line spacing: Canva’s default can feel cramped for Hangul — increase line spacing slightly (around 1.4–1.6).
  • Letter spacing: bold Korean headline fonts often look better with letter spacing reduced a little.
  • Mixing languages: if English letters look off next to Hangul, use a font made for both, like Pretendard or SUIT.
